Abstract The invention relates to a method for refrigeration induced by an external stimulus, which comprises applying an external stimulus selected from hydrostatic pressure, uniaxial pressure, an electrical field and illumination with light, to a hybrid organic-inorganic material having a crystal structure with hexagonal packing, of formula ABX3 (I), wherein: A is a determined monovalent organic cation, a determined mixture of monovalent organic cations or a determined mixture of monovalent organic cations and monovalent inorganic cations; B is a determined divalent metal cation, a determined mixture of divalent metal cations or a determined mixture that is atomically 50% monovalent cation and 50% trivalent cation; and X is a halide anion or a mixture of same. The invention also relates to a device capable of refrigeration induced by an external stimulus, which comprises said hybrid organic-inorganic material.
