Abstract Provided are: a composition containing PFOB, which has lower PFOA content than conventional PFOBs and is not likely to have adverse effects on the environment; and a method for producing PFOB. A composition which contains C8F17Br, while additionally containing C7F15COOH, and wherein the content of C7F15COOH is 25 ppb or less relative to the total weight of C8F17Br. A method for producing C8F17Br according to the present invention comprises: a step for obtaining C8F17Br by a reaction between C8F17I and a brominating agent; and a step for subjecting the thus-obtained C8F17Br to alkaline cleaning, thereby reducing the content of C7F15COOH to 25 ppb or less relative to the total weight of C8F17Br.
