Abstract Provided are water absorbent resin particles which have a sufficient water retention amount, excellent initial liquid dispersibility, and excellent liquid permeability in swollen gel in the anti-gravitational direction. The present invention provides water absorbent resin particles containing: a talc (c) containing 1-20 wt% of aluminum oxide; and a crosslinked polymer (A) including, as essential constituent units, a crosslinking agent (b), and a water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) and/or a vinyl monomer (a2) which is converted into the water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) through hydrolysis, wherein the contained amount of the talc (c) is 0.1-10 wt% with respect to the weight of the polymer (A). The present invention also provides a production method for water absorbent resin particles, the method comprising a step for mixing the crosslinked polymer (A) with the talc (c).
