Abstract The present invention relates to a process for the selective isolation of highly purified, crystalline D-mannose from complex sugar mixtures, in particular from mixed wood sugars, more particularly from spent sulfite liquor (SSL).The process of the present invention is based on converting mannose into essentially pure mannose bisulfite adducts. Subsequent oxidative recovery of mannose from the mannose bisulfite adducts renders crystalline mannose in improved yields and purities. La présente invention concerne un procédé d'isolement sélectif de D-mannose cristallin hautement purifié à partir de mélanges de sucres complexes, en particulier à partir de sucres de bois mélangés, plus particulièrement à partir de liqueur au sulfite épuisée (SSL). Le procédé de la présente invention est fondé sur la conversion de mannose en produits d'addition de bisulfite de mannose sensiblement purs. La récupération oxydative subséquente de mannose à partir des produits d'addition de bisulfite de mannose fournit un mannose cristallin avec des rendements et des puretés améliorés.
