Abstract The present invention relates to a method of assessing the viability of an embryo, wherein the method comprises a step of: measuring the level and/or activity of a protein marker selected from either TMPRSS2 or PRSS8 in a sample of culture medium, wherein the sample has been obtained from the in vitro culture medium of an embryo produced by in vitro fertilization, wherein the level and/or activity of the protein marker is indicative of the viability of the embryo. La présente invention concerne un procédé d'évaluation de la viabilité d'un embryon, le procédé comprenant une étape de : mesure du niveau et/ou de l'activité d'un marqueur protéique choisi parmi TMPRSS2 ou PRSS8 dans un échantillon de milieu de culture, l'échantillon ayant été obtenu à partir du milieu de culture in vitro d'un embryon produit par fécondation in vitro, le taux et/ou l'activité du marqueur protéique étant indicateur de la viabilité de l'embryon.
