Abstract A scrimless, pressure- and/or thermo-formable, porous or non-porous, rigid composite material is provided. The rigid composite material employs one or more unwoven (i.e., not woven nor a nonwoven) patterned supportive fiber layers on or within the rigid composite material. Where the rigid composite material does not require a supportive scrim, it avoids the disadvantages associated with these support structures such as additional weight and cost. The inventive rigid composite material also offers increased flexibility in forming and molding different part geometries, which is actively sought after by part designers and engineers. La présente invention concerne un matériau composite rigide, sans renfort, poreux ou non poreux, façonnable par pression et/ou thermoformable. Ledit matériau composite rigide utilise une ou plusieurs couches de fibres de support à motif non tissées (ou intissées) qui sont placées sur le matériau composite rigide ou à l'intérieur. Comme ledit matériau composite rigide ne nécessite pas de renfort, il évite les inconvénients associés à ces structures de support, par exemple un poids et un coût supplémentaires. Le matériau composite rigide de l'invention offre également une souplesse accrue pour ce qui est du façonnage et du moulage de pièces de formes différentes, ce qui est très recherché par les concepteurs de pièces et les ingénieurs.
