Abstract | Thin film composite (TFC) membranes are used in forward osmosis (FO) and pressure reduced osmosis (PRO) processes. The membrane is comprised of two layers: a composite layer combining a backing layer and a porous, polymer-based support into a single layer, and a rejection layer disposed on top of the composite layer. The membrane of the invention exhibits high water flux values for FO processes, is durable, may be readily manufactured using typical membrane manufacturing processes, such as spiral winding and plate and frame processes, and has sufficient mechanical stability to handle the final membrane product.
L'invention porte sur des membranes de composite en couches minces (TFC), qui sont utilisées dans des procédés d'osmose directe (FO) et d'osmose à pression réduite (PRO). La membrane est constituée de deux couches : une couche composite combinant en une seule couche une couche arrière et un support poreux à base de polymère, et une couche de rejet disposée sur le dessus de la couche composite. La membrane selon l'invention présente des valeurs élevées de circulation d'eau pour des procédés FO, est durable, peut être fabriquée facilement à l'aide de procédés typiques de fabrication de membranes tels que des procédés d'enroulement en spirale, à plaque et à cadre, et a une stabilité mécanique suffisante pour manipuler le produit de membrane final. |
