Abstract | The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device provided with a horizontal alignment layer, in which liquid crystal alignment can be stabilized using a PSA technique, power consumption increase, contrast reduction, and display burn-in can be suppressed, and long-term reliability is exhibited. The present invention is a liquid crystal display device comprising a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, a horizontal alignment layer formed on at least one of the pair of substrates, and a polymer layer that is formed on the horizontal alignment layer and that aligns and controls adjacent liquid crystal molecules. The polymer layer is formed by polymerizing at least one type of monomer added to the liquid crystal layer; when irradiated by light the at least one type of monomer itself becomes a polymerization initiator and polymerization occurs.
La présente invention concerne un dispositif d'afficheur à cristaux liquides dont la couche d'alignement horizontal permet une stabilisation de l'alignement des cristaux liquides selon la technique dite "d'alignement soutenu des polymères" ou "PSA" (Polymer Sustained Alignment), une augmentation de la consommation électrique, une réduction des contrastes, tout en supprimant le rodage fonctionnel de l'afficheur, et ce, tout en faisant preuve de fiabilité au long terme. L'invention concerne plus particulièrement un dispositif d'afficheur à cristaux liquides comprenant une paire de substrats, une couche de cristaux liquides prise en sandwich entre les deux substrats, une couche d'alignement horizontal réalisée sur l'un au moins des deux substrats, et une couche polymère, qui est réalisée sur la couche d'alignement horizontal, et qui aligne et commande les molécules adjacentes de cristaux liquides. La couche polymère s'obtient par polymérisation d'au moins un type de monomère ajouté à la couche de cristaux liquides, laquelle polymérisation intervient lorsque l'éclairage par la lumière provoque la transformation dudit type considéré de monomère en initiateur de polymérisation. |
