Abstract Provided is a rubber composition that can improve fuel efficiency, wet grip performance, and wear resistance in a well-balanced manner. Also provided is a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. The disclosed rubber composition contains a rubber component and silica. In 100% by mass of the rubber component, the content of a conjugated diene polymer that includes a structural unit based on a conjugated diene and a structural unit represented by formula (I) is 5% by mass or greater, the conjugated diene polymer having at least one end thereof modified by a compound represented by formula (II). The content of silica to 100 parts by mass of the rubber component is 5 to 150 parts by mass. Cette invention concerne une composition de caoutchouc permettant d'améliorer le rendement énergétique, le pouvoir d'accrochage sur chaussée mouillée et la résistance à l'usure selon une manière bien équilibrée, ainsi qu'un pneumatique fabriqué à partir de cette composition de caoutchouc. Ladite composition comprend un composant de caoutchouc et de la silice. Pour 100% en masse du composant de caoutchouc, la teneur en polymère diène conjugué comprenant une unité structurelle basée sur un diène conjugué et une unité structurelle représentée par la formule (I) est de 5% en masse ou plus, le polymère diène ayant au moins une extrémité modifiée par un composé représenté par la formule (II).
