Disclosed is a flameproofing agent which is used for imparting a fiber material with flame retardancy and capable of providing good flame retardancy even in a small amount. This flameproofing agent enables to suppress deterioration of other physical properties, while having excellent product stability. Specifically disclosed is a flameproofing agent containing a phosphorus compound (A), a surfactant (B) composed of an anionic surfactant and/or a nonionic surfactant and water, which is used for imparting a fiber material with flame retardancy. The phosphorus compound (A) has a median particle size (D50) of not more than 1 µm. Ce matériau ignifugeant ne provoque aucune altération des autres propriétés physiques et possède une excellente stabilité. L'invention décrit en particulier un matériau ignifugeant permettant de rendre ininflammable un matériau fibreux, et contenant un composé phosphoré (A), un tensio-actif (B) composé d'un tensio-actif anionique et/ou d'un tensio-actif non ionique, et de l'eau. La taille de particule moyenne (D50) du composé phosphoré (A) n'excède pas 1 µm.
