Abstract An external electrode fluorescent lamp (110) includes a phosphor film (2) formed on the inner circumferential surface of a glass tube (1) and having a thickness gradually increasing from one end toward the other end along the axial direction of the tube. Inner space of the glass tube (1) is filled with a rare gas discharge medium. A pair of stripe-shaped external electrodes (5, 6) are arranged on the outer circumferential surface of the glass tube (1). The pair of electrodes (5, 6) are spaced apart in the axial direction of the tube. The stripe-shaped external electrodes (5, 6) have at least one side edge portion in the axial direction of the tube formed in saw-tooth shape and the effective width or effective area of the electrodes (5, 6) is large on the side TN where the phosphor film (2) is thin and gradually decreases toward the side TK where the phosphor film is thick. La présente invention concerne une lampe fluorescente à électrode externe (110) qui comprend un film de phosphore (2) formé sur la surface circonférentielle interne d'un tube en verre (1) et ayant une épaisseur croissant progressivement depuis une extrémité vers l'autre extrémité le long du sens axial du tube. L'espace intérieur du tube en verre (1) est rempli d'un milieu de décharge de gaz rare. Une paire d'électrodes externes en forme de bandes (5, 6) est disposée sur la surface circonférentielle externe du tube en verre (1). Les deux électrodes (5, 6) sont espacées dans le sens axial du tube.
