Abstract A bed occupant monitoring and alert system comprising a plurality of sensors (22, 24, 26) to be located relative to at least one mattress (16) so as to be able to detect a patient upon the least one mattress. Each of the plurality of sensors is also for generating and receiving a signal to a control unit. The control unit is for sampling the signals as received form the plurality of sensors to determine if the patient in upon at least a portion of the at least one mattress. The control unit comprises a telecommunication module (28) for sending a message to a duty person (26) upon determining that there is no patient upon at least the portion of the at least one mattress. L'invention concerne un système de surveillance et d'alarme pour occupant de lit qui comprend plusieurs capteurs (22, 24, 26) destinés à être placés par rapport à au moins un matelas (16), permettant de déceler la présence d'un patient sur ce ou ces matelas. Chaque capteur produit et transmet un signal à une unité de contrôle, laquelle échantillonne les signaux reçus depuis les capteurs pour déterminer si le patient occupe au moins une partie du ou des matelas. L'unité comprend un module de télécommunications (28) permettant de transmettre un message à une personne de garde (26) lorsqu'il est établi de la sorte qu'il n'y a pas de patient occupant au moins une partie du ou des matelas.
