It is possible to assure visibility of a display unit and suppress noise during communication using a receiver and a microphone. In a mobile terminal device, when communication operation is performed by an operation unit (18) and an audio communication is started by a communication circuit (11) and a transmission/reception unit (12), a control unit (16) judges whether a hands free device (20) is connected. If the hands free device (20) is not connected, it is decided that a user holds a device case on his/her ear to use a receiver (13) and a microphone (14) of the device main body, and at least one of the drive method and drive frequency of a display unit (19) consisting of a liquid crystal display is modified so as to perform drive operation, giving priority to the acoustic characteristic. On the other hand, if the hands free device (20) is connected, the drive method and the like are not modified and a drive operation of high image quality is performed, giving priority to the optical characteristic of the display unit (19). Cette invention a pour objet d'assurer la visibilité d'une unité d'affichage et de supprimer les bruits au cours d'une communication au cours de laquelle un récepteur et d'un microphone sont utilisés. A cette fin, une unité de commande (16) détecte la connexion ou l'absence de connexion d'un appareil mobile avec un dispositif </= MAINS LIBRES >/= (20) lorsqu'une communication est initiée par un circuit de communication (11) et une unité d'émission/réception. Si le dispositif </= MAINS LIBRES >/= (20) n'est pas connecté, on considère que l'utilisateur ou l'utilisatrice tient le boîtier de l'appareil contre son oreille afin d'utiliser le récepteur (13) et le microphone (14) du corps principal de l'appareil, et le mode de commande et/ou la fréquence de commande de l'unité d'affichage (19) équipée d'un écran à cristaux liquides est/sont modifié(s) de manière à obtenir une fonction de commande donnant la priorité à la caractéristique acoustique. En revanche, si le dispositif mains libres (20) est connecté, le mode de commande ou les paramètres analogues ne sont pas modifiés et une fonction de commande assurant une haute qualité d'image, donnant la priorité à la caractéristique optique de l'unité d'affichage (19), est mise en oeuvre,
