Abstract The invention concerns a method for synthesizing hexagonal boron nitride powder from colemanite, characterised in that it comprises steps which consist in: heating a mixture of 50 to 80 wt. % of colemanite and 20 to 50 wt. % of boric acid, in the presence of a reducing/nitriding agent, up to a temperature of 1250 to 1500 DEG C; purifying, after cooling and disaggregation, the resulting reaction product; and in collecting, at the end of said purification, hexagonal boron nitride in powder form having a purity higher than 98 %, a crystallite size higher than 600 ANGSTROM and a median diameter less than 4 mu m. L'invention concerne un procédé de synthèse de poudre de nitrure de bore hexagonal à partir de colémanite, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend les étapes consistant à chauffer un mélange de 50 à 80 % en poids de colémanite et 20 à 50 % en poids d'acide borique, en présence d'un agent de réduction/nitruration, jusqu'à une température de 1250 à 1500 DEG C; à purifier, après refroidissement et désagglomération, le produit réactionnel obtenu et à recueillir, à l'issue de cette purification, du nitrure de bore hexagonal sous forme de poudre présentant une pureté supérieure à 98 %, une taille de cristallites supérieure à 600 ANGSTROM et un diamètre médian inférieur à 4 mu m.
