Abstract A cylinder injection type spark ignition engine enabling a stratified combustion with high robustness without relying upon tumbling generated in a combustion chamber, comprising a fuel injection nozzle (9) directly injecting fuel into the combustion chamber (4), wherein the fuel injection nozzle injects fuel into the combustion chamber during compression stroke and the mixture is ignited by a spark plug (10) to provide the stratified combustion, the fuel injection nozzle (9) generates, separately from air flow supplied through an intake port to the combustion chamber, lead spray (13) supplied toward the spark plug prior to the subsequent fuel spray for ignition (14), and the mixture evaporated from the fuel spray for ignition at the time of ignition is fed to the spark plug by the lead of the lead spray (13).
