Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Emulationsvorrichtung (1) zum Emulieren von Steuer- und/oder Regelfunktionen eines Steuer- oder Regelgeräts (2) insbesondere eines Kraftfahrzeugs. Zum Emulieren werden die Funktionen in einen externen Emulationsrechner (3) ausgelagert, wobei vor Beginn der Emulation über eine Software-Schnittstelle (12) des Emulationsrechners (3) und eine Software-Schnittstelle (13) des Steuer-/ Regelgeräts (2) eine Datenverbindung (9) hergestellt wird. Um die Entwicklung und Programmierung neuer Steuer-/Regelfunktionen des Steuer-/ Regelgeräts (2) deutlich zu beschleunigen, wird vorgeschlagen, dass die Software-Schnittstellen (12, 13) zur Emulation von unterschiedlichen Steuer-/ Regelfunktionen vor Beginn der Emulation ohne Änderung der Software konfiguriert werden.
