Summary:A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving an uplink Sounding Reference Signal (SRS). The method includes receiving a sounding reference signal (SRS) configuration index; identifying an SRS periodicity and at least one offset based on the SRS configuration index; determining a number of SRS transmissions in a radio frame based on an uplink-downlink (UL-DL) subframe configuration, if the SRS periodicity is 2 ms; and transmitting SRSs based on the determined number and the at least one offset.
