Abstract A digital image capture device, comprising an image sensor and an optical system for capturing digital images, and a program memory storing instructions configured to cause a data processing system to implement a method for extracting textual information from a document containing text characters. The method includes capturing plurality of digital images of the document using the image sensor. Each of the captured digital images is automatically analyzed using an optical character recognition process to determine extracted textual data. The extracted textual data for the captured digital images are merged to determine the textual information for the document, wherein differences between the extracted textual data for the captured digital images are analyzed to determine the textual information for the document.
