The washing machine includes a cabinet, a tub suspended in the cabinet, a drum rotatably provided in the tub, a motor provided in the cabinet to rotate the drum, a sensor assembly in the cabinet to sense a transient vibration of the tub, and a controller to control the motor, and to stop the motor if the sensor assembly senses that the tub is in a transient vibration state.
