Summary: | A device for testing and/or capping of glass bottles has an upright cylinder which is reciprocable in a holder and a piston which is reciprocable in the cylinder and tracks a stationary cam in response to rotation of the holder so that the piston moves axially downwardly and pushes the cylinder toward a bottle through the intermediary of helical springs. The cylinder carries a ram which bears against the mouth of a bottle while the piston moves downwardly whereby a satisfactory bottle arrests the ram and the cylinder while the piston continues to move downwardly in order to stress the springs. If the bottle breaks, the springs expand and abruptly propel the cylinder against a shock absorber which is inserted between a cap on the cylinder and an arm of the holder to cushion the impact of the cylinder. |
