Abstract 1,163,755. Cycloheptimidazole and cycloheptoxazole derivatives. SANKYO CO. Ltd. and KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 23 Aug., 1966 [26 Aug., 1965], No. 37802/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Novel cycloheptimidazole and cycloheptoxazole derivatives of the general formulµ wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a C 1-6 alkyl group, a phenyl group optionally substituted by a C 1-6 alkyl or C 1-6 alkoxy group, a halogen atom or an amino, substituted amino, nitro, cyano or alkoxycarbonyl group, or a phenylalkyl group optionally substituted in the phenyl residue by a C 1-6 , alkyl or C 1-6 alkoxy group, a halogen atom or a substituted amino, nitro, cyano or alkoxycarbonyl group, R 3 is a cyano, acyl or alkoxycarbonyl group; R 4 is a cyano, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl, nitro or substituted or unsubstituted carbamoyl group; and Z is an oxygen atom or the group =N-Y in which Y is a C 1-6 alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group; with the provisos that when the compound is of the third general formula above, R 3 is a cyano group and R 4 is a substituted carbamoyl group and that when the compound is of the first general formula above; R 4 is not a substituted carbamoyl group when R 3 is a cyano group, are prepared (a) when the compound is of the first general formula above, by reaction of a 2-oxocycloheptimidazolinium salt of the general formula wherein X1 is a halogen atom or an acid residue, with a compound of the general formula R 3 CH 2 R 4 , in the presence of a condensing agent; (b) when the compound is of the second general formula above, by reaction of a cycloheptimidazolinium or cycloheptoxazolinium salt of the general formula with a compound of the general formula R 3 CH 2 R 4 , in the presence of a condensing agent; or (c) when the compound is of the third general formula above by reaction of a 2-oxo-cycloheptimidazolinium salt of the fourth general formula above with a compound of the general formula NC-CH 2 -R1 4 , wherein R1 4 is a substituted carbamoyl radical, in the presence of a condensing agent.
