Abstract | Methyl 4-p-aminophenylbutyrate is prepared by hydrogenating, in a methanolic solution containing a substantial amount of a strong acid and in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, a 4-p(lower acylamido)-phenyl-5-oxo-butyric acid or a 4-p-(lower acylamido)phenyl-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid. Examples are given. 4-p-(Acetamidophenyl) -4- oxo - but -2- enoic acid is prepared from acetanilide and maleic acid. |
