Abstract Power usage on a computing device is managed. Data indicative of signal or network conditions for a network for which the system is communicatively coupled via a communications link is accessed. The link quality for the communications link is determined. Based on the determined link quality, applications are allowed or delayed for a period of time to access the network for communication. The applications are selected so as to reduce power consumed by the system based on the determined link quality.
