Abstract A wireless area network (99) includes at least one access point (100), provides for multiple possible network devices (104, 105), and is located in a structure (108) with wiring (201). The wireless area network includes an interface unit (200) that extends the range of the network devices (104, 105). The interface unit (200) is for receiving wireless signals from the access point (100) and for transmitting the wireless signals on the wiring (201). The interface unit (200) is also for receiving the wireless signals from the wiring (201) and for transmitting the wireless signals to the access point (100).
