A headliner according to the invention comprises a substantially-planar first base portion having an upper surface and a lower surface, and a plurality of absorption projections disposed on said upper surface of said base portion. The absorption projections each are shaped in the form of a geometric solid having an axis. The absorption projections include a second base portion and a topmost portion, and the absorption projections extend from the upper surface such that their axes are oriented substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the base portion.
