Abstract An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, an output unit, a light source, and a processor. The image forming unit creates a printed material by forming an image on paper. The output unit outputs the printed material to an output tray. The light source is provided such that lit light is viewable from outside the image forming apparatus. The processor is configured to receive specification of a period during which the light source is not to be lit, receive an instruction to create the printed material, and perform control such that in a case where the printed material is output in accordance with the instruction at a time outside the period, the light source is lit, whereas in a case where the printed material is output during the period, the light source is not lit during the period and then starts to be lit when the period ends.
