Summary:Preheaters for wet cellulosic sheet passing at an intermediate stage between compression roll driers where the preheating is provided by a stream of hot fluid, pref. steam, released from a manifold within a local hood and drawn past and through the cellulosic sheet to a collection chamber from which the fluid is recycled via an ancillary heater to recompensate for heat lost to the sheet etc. Used for heaters to reduce the viscosity of residual moisture within the sheet and improve the moisture extraction efficiency of a subsequent roll press after some moisture has been removed by one or more preliminary press rolls. The heating effect of the permeating fluid is more efficient than prior art use of the surfaces of a stack of rolls to impart heat by conduction, and the engineering requirements of the design are less stringent and more compact.
