Summary:1282338 Dialysis stacks UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION 1 April 1970 [6 June 1969] 15350/70 Heading B1X A parallel flow haemodialysis unit comprises a rectangular casing 11 having openings 16, 17 for dialysing fluid and openings 18, 19 for blood, the openings connecting with their respective manifolds 22, 23 and 24, 25. The casing houses flattened, hollow tubular, stacked membranes 20 of substantially rectangular cross section and e.g. of regenerated cellulose, supported internally by either a non woven plastics mesh 21 or a plastics sheet having alternatively inverted pressed cones, Fig. 6 (not shown). Each membrane is joined to its adjacent neighbours by means of an epoxy resin strip 29 located along external, stress relieving flaps 27 positioned on either side of both ends of the membranes. The membranes are attached to the casing by epoxy resin beads 26. Blood flows around the membranes. The membranes may be attached by the epoxy resin without the use of the flaps 27.
