Abstract 1318455 Glycerin and its monoesters DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 28 Aug 1970 [30 Aug 1969] 41445/70 Heading C2C A monoester of glycerin of the formula where R1 is a C 1-5 alkyl radical, is prepared by reacting an allyl ester of the formula with a percarboxylic acid of the formula R2.CO.COH where R2 is a C 1-5 alkyl radical, in the presence of water in an amount of up to 10 mols per mol of percarboxylic acid and optionally a carboxylic acid of the formula R2COOH, preferably at 40-90‹ C., and optionally, if desired, subjecting the glycerine monoester after separation of unreacted allyl ester, water and carboxylic acid to alcoholysis, e.g. with methanol, or aqueous hydrolysis to obtain glycerine. Preferably R1 and R2 are each a methyl radical.
