Abstract FIELD: rolling processes in wide strip rolling mills. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises step of one or several rough reduction operations of hot blank along its upper and lower faces in vertical plane and along its lateral faces in horizontal plane in zone of rough stand group of mill and simultaneously increasing thickness of blank; transporting rolled piece to zone of finish stand group of mill; trimming back end of rolled piece in front of inlet of finish stand group; performing final reduction operations. According to invention rough reduction operations in vertical and horizontal planes are alternatively realized beginning from reduction in horizontal plane by predetermined value. One or several rough reduction operations of rolled piece in vertical plane are realized at positively crosswise shifting edge longitudinal swellings of metal on horizontal front surfaces rolled piece towards its axial zone. Shifting zone width and inclination angles of surfaces are normalized. Apparatus for performing the method includes several universal rough rolling stands with horizontal and vertical rolls in zone of rough stand group of mill; intermediate roller table; finish rolling stands with horizontal rolls; outlet roller table and group of coiling devices. According to invention surfaces of barrel working part of one or several pairs of horizontal rolls of first rough rolling stands are shaped ones. Said surfaces have cylindrical central portions whose length consists of 0.3 -0.4 of initial width of blank and cone edge portions with diameters increasing from roll mean portion to edges.
