Abstract protection of environment from toxic components of waste gases, more particularly catalytic oxidizing purification of hydrocarbon- containing gases. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing catalyst for oxidation of hydrocarbon-containing gases by deposition of platinum on preoxidized metallic carrier from stainless steel in aqueous solution [Pt(NH3)]Cl2 and 0.005 mole/l of potassium hydroxide at 170-210 C in closed volume for 150-180 min. In this case, carrier of is made metal-rubber (MR) material, and deposition is carried out in aqueous solution containing 6.10-4-12.10-4 mole/l of [Pt(NH3)4]Cl2 at carrier volume to solution volume ratio ranging from 1:10 to 1:1.11. Density of material MR is 1.97-2.99 g/cubic cm. EFFECT: catalyst has high activity at 250-400 C, low gas dynamic resistance to reaction stream and desired geometric shape and porosity of carrier. 2 cl, 2 tbl
