Abstract | 1423747 Thermal decomposition of hydrocarbon polymers MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO LTD and MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 March 1973 [18 March 1972] 11248/73 Heading C5E [Also in Division F4] Plastics waste is thermally decomposed in a reactor 1, the resultant gaseous products of the decomposition are cooled at 10 and separated into gaseous and liquid products, the carbon sludge formed is dispersed in the reactor and a portion of the reactor content is discharged to reduce the carbon sludge content of the reactor. Waste polyethylene or polypropylene is melted at 7 and heated to the decomposition temperature of 400-450 C. at 1. Gaseous effluent from the reactor 1 is partially condensed at 10 and separated into liquid and gaseous products at 11. A portion of reactor content is continuously or intermittently removed, cooled at 19 and wholly or partially burnt at 5, e.g. with the product fuel gas. |
