Summary:The invention relates to an electric locomotive with storage batteries, with electric drive, to be used as railway transportation means and meant for the heavy or light shunt service in stations/switch yards and the hauling service for passenger or cargo trains, especially on the secondary lines and for industrial shunt uses in industrial applications, service in harbours and the like. According to the invention, the engine consists of an asynchronous electric motor (1) for traction which transmits the motion by means of a reducing gear (2) to some driving cardan shafts (4), which enter the double gearwheels (5), the connection between the axles from the same bogie being achieved by some cardan axles (6), which couple the double gearwheels (5) with the simple gearwheels (7) of the axles from the locomotive extremities, where the energy source may be a Li-ion storage batteries unit (8) protected by a system (9) for monitoring the insulation resistance and controlled by a management system (B) for the batteries, provided with a computer, the storage batteries (14) being serially connected within the pack, an electronic module (15) being mounted on each battery to supply the primary information for the battery management system (B), the information being concentrated and primarily processed by an electronic circuit (16) at the level of each pack, before being transmitted through a bus (CAN) towards the battery management system (B).
