Summary: | A direct reduction process for metal ore comprises supplying coal and air to a fluidised bed in a first vessel 3, generating heat by the reaction between the oxygen in the air and the coal and any other oxidisable gases or solids in the fluidised bed, discharging the hot off-gas stream containing entrained solids to a second fluidised bed containing vessel 5, and supplying the metal ore to the second vessel 5. A product stream of partially reduced metal ore and an off-gas stream containing entrained solids are produced. The process is more efficient in the use of metal ore. |
