Abstract Oppfinnelsen omhandler transgene planter som danner poly-beta- D-hydroksysme>rsyre (PHB) og relaterte polyhydroksyalkanoater (PHA). Dannelsen av PHB gjennomfares ved at plantene trans- formeres genetisk med modifiserte gener fra mikroorganismer. Genene koder for enzymene som kreves for å syntetisere PHB fra acetyl-CoA eller relaterte metabolitter. PHB er en svært nyttig polymer som er bionedbrytbar.
