Summary:A process for preparing an antimonate-based mixed metal oxide catalyst in a catalytically active oxidized state, wherein the catalyst is represented by the empirical formula MeaSbbXcQdReOf, wherein Me, X, Q, R, a, b, c, d, e, and f are as defined herein, comprising (a) contacting an aqueous Sb2O3 slurry with HNO3 and one or more Me compounds, and, optionally, one or more compounds selected from X, Q, or R compounds to form a first mixture; (b) heating and drying the first mixture to form a solid product; and (c) calcining the solid product to form the catalyst, the catalysts prepared by the process, and the use of the catalysts in ammoxidation and oxidation processes. The catalysts of the invention are particularly useful for the production of acrylonitrile from propylene, ammonia, and an oxygen-containing gas. Un proceso para preparar un catalizador de oxido de metal mezclado a base de antimonato en un estado oxidado, cataliticamente activo, en donde e l catalizador se representa por la formula empirica Mea,SbbXcQdRe,Of, en donde Me, X, Q, R, a, b, c, d, e y f son segun se define en la presente, que comprende (a) contactar una mezcla acuosa de Sb203 con HN03 y uno o mas compuestos de Me, preferentemente oxido de Me o compuestos de nitrato de Me y, opcionalmente, uno o mas compuestos seleccionados a partir de los compuestos X, Q o R, para formar una primer mezcla; calentar y secar la primer mezcla a fin de formar un producto solido; y calcinar e l producto solido para formar e l catalizador, los catalizadores preparados mediante el proceso y el uso de los catalizadores en los procesos de amoxidacion y oxidacion. Los catalizadores de la invencion son particularmente utiles en la produccion de acritonitrilo a partir de propileno, amoniaco y un gas que contiene oxigeno.
