Abstract The present invention is directed to a method for differentially processing image types within a document image to enhance the quality of an image on a receiving medium. In one aspect of the invention, the method begins by receiving document image data (170) including one or more image regions. The method determines (174) for each image region whether the region includes any image data corresponding to a first image type. The method then prints regions including image data corresponding to the first image type according to a first pixel management process and prints regions not including image data corresponding to the first image type according to a second pixel management process. La presente invencion es un metodo para procesar datos de imagenes de color para determinar si un pixel objetivo esta dentro de una region limite cerca de una interfaz. El metodo comienza con la identificacion de un pixel objetivo dentro de los datos de la imagen de color y a continuacion determina si el pixel objetivo es un pixel negro o de color. Si el pixel negro, el metodo recolecta un primer conjunto de estadisticas del pixel de una primera ventana que comprende el pixel objetivo y los pixeles que rodean el pixel objetivo y analiza el primer conjunto de estadisticas para determinar si el pixel objetivo esta dentro de una region limite negra de N pixeles de ancho cerca de una interfaz. Si el pixel objetivo es un pixel de color, el metodo recolecta un segundo conjunto de estadistica del pixel de una de una segunda ventana que comprende el pixel objetivo y los pixeles que rodean al pixel objetivo y analiza el segundo conjunto de estadisticas para determinar si el pixel objetivo esta dentro de una region limite de M de color de ancho cerca de una interfaz.
