Abstract | The invention relates to an applicator for applying a coating means (e.g. sealant) to a component (9, 10), particularly for sealing or gluing a raised seam (8) on the motor vehicle body component (9, 10). The applicator according to the invention comprises a nozzle (7) for dispensing the coating means in a specific jet direction onto a component surface of the component (9, 10) to be coated. The applicator also comprises a nozzle carrier (2) for positioning the nozzle (7). The nozzle carrier (2) is hollow at least over part of the length thereof, so as to be able to guide the coating means therethrough. The nozzle carrier (2) also comprises a plurality of limbs (3-6) that are successively arranged at an angle to each other, and the nozzle (7) is arranged on the nozzle carrier (2), particularly on the distal limb (6) of the nozzle carrier (2). According to the invention, a spacer (11) is mounted on the outside of the nozzle carrier (2), projecting from the distal limb (6) in the jet direction, and lying on the component surface of the component (9, 10) to be coated during the coating operation, thereby setting a pre-defined application distance (a) between the nozzle (7) and the component surface.
