PURPOSE:To make it possible to adapt a workpiece satisfactorily to the cutting of its outer peripheral surface so that the workpiece may be simply mounted and removed, and as well stably held, by providing such an arrangement that the workpiece is positioned on a pedestal with its inner peripheral surface being gripped. CONSTITUTION:In a holding device by which a workpiece is removably attached to the end of the spindle of a machine tool rotatably together with the spindle, a pedestal 1 is formed thereon with a stepped part 2 having an annular outer periphery adapted to be fitted into an opening end (b), and is provided in its center section with a pair of right and left pawls 4, 4 having locking stepped parts 3, 3 at their ends extending the respective sides of a pair of projections of the workpiece, being tiltably and parallelly arranged with the use of bolts 5, 5, etc. These pawls 4, 4 are engaged together at the inclined side surfaces 7, 7 of their tongue piece sections 6, 6. Therefore, when one of them is tilted outward, the other of them is tilted accompanying it. Thus, the mounting and removal of the workpiece may be simple, and the workpiece is stably held.
