Abstract A robot vacuum cleaner according to the present invention comprises: a driving unit which moves a main body; a cleaning unit which performs a cleaning function; a sensing unit which detects the surrounding environment of a cleaning area; and a control unit which determines information on the distance to an obstacle and the shape of the obstacle through information on the surrounding environment input from the sensing unit, and controls the driving unit. The control unit controls the driving unit according to the shape of the obstacle with respect to the main moving direction of the main body. 본 발명에 따른 로봇 청소기는, 본체를 이동시키는 주행부, 청소 기능을 수행하는 청소부, 청소 구역의 주변 환경을 감지하는 센싱부 및 상기 센싱부에서 입력된 상기 주변 환경 정보를 통해 장애물과의 거리 정보 및 상기 장애물의 형상을 판단하고, 상기 주행부를 제어하는 제어부를 포함하고, 상기 제어부는 상기 장애물의 상기 본체의 주 진행 방향에 대한 형상에 따라 상기 주행부를 제어하는 것을 특징으로 한다
