Abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing a ball joint (1, 20, 21) with a joint housing (2) and an inner joint member (3) which has a joint ball (4), in which the joint ball (4) of the inner joint member (3) is arranged in a ball receiving part (6) of the joint housing (2), the joint ball (4) is arranged in the ball receiving part (6), a free space (22) remains between the joint ball (4) and the inner surface (11) of the ball receiving part (6) facing the joint ball (4), and in a subsequent filling step, the free space (22) is filled with a plastic material, whereby a plastic layer (8) is formed between the inner surface (11) of the ball receiving part (6) and the joint ball (4). The method for producing a ball joint is characterized in that in order to enable a predetermined joint preload to be set during the production of the ball joint (1, 20, 21) itself without the need to press the ball joint (1, 20, 21) into the joint receiving part of an additional joint receiving component, in a subsequent closing step, a closing element (15) is arranged in a housing opening (7) of the joint housing (2), and a force is guided into the plastic layer (8) by means of the closing element (15).
