In accordance with the present invention, in transmitting and receiving data symbols, a transmitter diffuses (or spreads) each of the data symbols in a two-dimensional resource group, modulates each of the data symbols diffused in the two-dimensional resource group, and transmits the modulated data symbols. In addition, in receiving the data symbols, a receiver demodulates received signals and reversely diffuses (or despreads) the demodulated symbols diffused in the two-dimensional resource group with respect to each of the data symbols. To overcome delay spread and/or Doppler spread channel degradation, the receiver may perform channel equalization for the reversely diffused demodulated symbols after demodulation and/or may perform channel equalization for the back-diffused data symbols.
