The present invention relates to a fingerprint recognition system and method for expanding a fingerprint recognition area. The fingerprint recognition system of the present invention includes a fingerprint recognition optical module including a plurality of recognition modules fixed to be spaced apart from a display panel in order to obtain fingerprint information about a touch on the display panel, and a control part for displaying a touch area corresponding to positions of the plurality of recognition modules on the display panel, and outputting a fingerprint signal based on a detection signal from at least one of the plurality of recognition modules in response to the touch of the touch area.
