Abstract The present invention relates to a system and a method for controlling a closed loop of an ink drop volume in a printhead. A printer comprises: a plurality of printheads; a plurality of printhead drivers; and an optical sensor which generates image data of a substrate after a substrate is printed by the plurality of printheads. A controller operates the printheads by using the printhead drivers for printing a pattern of ink drops on the substrate, determines whether a density response for the pattern of the ink drops on each printhead is within a predetermined range on the reference density response for the pattern of the ink drops from the image data of the ink drop pattern received from the optical sensor, identifies a peak voltage for each printhead determined to have a density response out of the predetermined range, and stores the identified peak voltage in the printhead driver for the printhead. The printhead driver uses the identified peak voltage, and generates firing signals for the printhead connected by an operation type to the printhead driver.
