Abstract | Disclosed is a routing platform for routing 4G and 5G mobile data traffic in a mobile core network capable of implementing option-3 of 5G non-standalone (NSA) arrangement. The routing platform captures an S6a diameter message transmitted between a mobility management entity (MME) and a home subscriber server (HSS), and examines a message captured to determine whether or not user equipment (UE) is configured for 5G data connection. The routing platform intercepts a GTP session-generation-request message transmitted from a serving gateway (SGW) and determines whether or not a GTP message relates to previously determined UE which is configured for the 5G data connection. When the GTP message relates to the UE which is configured for the 5G data connection, the GTP message is transmitted to a dedicated 5G packet network data gateway (PGW) or is modified to allow a single PGW for processing 4G traffic and 5G traffic to establish a 5G session for the UE.
