Abstract A method for controlling an air dryer by utilizing an air dryer (1) of the present invention includes a cold mode, wherein, when an engine start is detected and a wintertime condition in which air temperature is decreased to a freezing temperature is detected in a controller (50), a path switchover of an air path (8) is formed in order to change the flow of compressed air by turning on/off an MV1 valve (5-1), an MV2 valve (5-2), and an MV3 valve (5-3) of the air dryer (1), before the inside of the air dryer (1) is heated by the compressed air of a high temperature and a high pressure which is filled into an air tank (40) by the path switchover, thereby thawing a purge valve (6). Therefore, a heater is removed because the compressed air is used for thawing the purge valve (6) in wintertime. In addition, in a conventional regeneration mode, the compressed air is used in order to allow emulsion of a cartridge (7) to be discharged. 본 발명의 에어 드라이어(1)를 이용한 에어 드라이어 제어 방법은 컨트롤러(50)에서 엔진 시동 검출과 함께 빙결온도로 대기온도가 낮아지는 동절기 조건이 검출되면, 에어 드라이어(1)의 MV1 밸브(5-1)와 MV2 밸브(5-2) 및 MV3 밸브(5-3)에 대한 온(ON)/오프(OFF)제어로 압축공기의 흐름이 변경되는 에어경로(8)의 경로 절환을 형성하고, 상기 경로 절환으로 상기 에어 드라이어(1)의 내부가 에어탱크(40)로 충진되는 고온/고압의 압축공기로 덥혀져 퍼지 밸브(6)가 해빙되는 콜드모드를 포함함으로써 동절기시 퍼지밸브(6)의 해빙에 압축공기이용으로 히터 삭제가 이루어지고, 특히 기존의 재생모드에선 압축공기이용으로 카트리지(7)의 이멀전 배출이 이루어지는 특징을 갖는다.
