Abstract | Disclosed are a device for positioning a vehicle and a method thereof. The device for positioning a vehicle comprises: a first sensing unit detecting driving state information of a vehicle; a GPS module acquiring position data of the vehicle; a safety core unit generating a first driving trajectory in which the vehicle has traveled based on the driving state information detected by the first sensing unit, and estimating the current position of the vehicle based on the generated first driving trajectory; a second sensing unit detecting driving environment information of the vehicle; and a performance core unit generating a second driving trajectory in which the vehicle has traveled, generating map matching data by performing map matching with respect to the driving environment information detected by the second sensing unit, and generating fusion positioning information by fusing the position data received from the GPS module, the second driving trajectory, and the map matching data. Here, the performance core unit is characterized by individually generating and providing: the position data generated by means of the map matching data; a map matching covariance value generated when the position data received from the GPS module and the position data by the second driving trajectory are fused; a GPS covariance value; and a DR covariance value.
