Disclosed are a method of transmitting and receiving a packet in a low power sleep mode and an apparatus using the same. According to an aspect of the present invention, provided is a terminal comprising: a first memory for maintaining power when the terminal is in a sleep mode and storing information on packet transmission/reception with a server; a second memory for shutting off the power when the terminal is in the sleep mode and storing data necessary for the terminal to operate in a wake-up mode; a central processing unit for generating a packet for maintaining a connection with an access point (AP) using the transmission/reception information in the sleep mode and controlling a communication unit to periodically transmit the packet to the AP; and the communication unit connected to a communication unit of the AP to transmit a packet for the maintaining the connection under the control of the central processing unit. 저 전력 슬립모드에서의 패킷 송수신 방법 및 이를 적용한 장치를 개시한다. 본 실시예의 일 측면에 의하면, 단말이 슬립모드 상태인 경우에 전원을 유지하며 서버와의 패킷 송수신 정보를 저장하는 제1 메모리; 단말이 슬립모드 상태인 경우에 전원이 꺼지며, 웨이크업모드에서 단말이 동작하기 위해 필요한 데이터를 저장하는 제2 메모리; 상기 슬립모드 상태에서 상기 송수신 정보를 이용하여 AP와의 연결 유지를 위한 패킷을 생성하고 상기 AP에 주기적으로 전송하도록 제어하는 중앙처리장치; 및 상기 AP의 통신부와 연결되어 상기 중앙처리장치의 제어에 따라 상기 연결 유지를 위한 패킷을 전송하는 통신부를 포함하는 단말을 제공한다.
