Abstract | The present disclosure relates to a circuit capable of detecting short in a chain of loads such as a light emitting diode (LED). The circuit may drive a plurality of LED chains or a single LED chain to determine if one or more of the LED chains are shorted so that the LED chains no longer operates. The circuit determines whether an LED chain voltage meets a threshold based on single LED voltage drop. Therefore, the same circuit may be used for application examples regardless of the number of LEDs in the LED chains. In addition, the circuit according to the technique of the present disclosure may not use any output pin other than that an output pin used to deliver a current to the LED chain regardless of the number of LED chains the circuit drives.
