A composite material useful for forming a coating excellent in corrosion resistance, heat resistance and solvent resistance, and an aqueous resin composition comprising the composite material are provided. The objectives are solved by the composite material including an unsaturated polymerizable monomer polymer and a cationic group-containing urethane resin, wherein the cationic maleic group-containing urethane resin is a copolymer of a structural unit derived from a specific polyisocyanate, a structural unit derived from a specific polyol, a structural unit derived from two or more specific diols, and a structural unit derived from a specific tertiary amine compound and/or the salt thereof. (해결 수단) 불포화 중합성 모노머 중합체와, 카티온성기 함유 우레탄 수지를 함유하고, 카티온성기 함유 우레탄 수지는, 특정 폴리이소시아네이트 유래의 구조 단위와, 특정 폴리올 유래의 구조 단위와, 2 종 이상의 특정 디올에서 유래하는 구조 단위와, 특정 제 3 급 아민 화합물 및/또는 그 염 유래의 구조 단위를 함유하는 복합체에 의해 상기 과제를 해결한다.
